Another Extraordinary Event from TCA…

Once again, The Chess Academy of Hong Kong (ActiveKids) has been invited to participate in this very unique and special event organized by the Chess Department of the German Club – FC Bayern Munchen. The tournament is intended to provide players with the opportunity to meet with players from other countries, engage in friendly competition, and also, bring awareness against Racism around the globe.

• 19:00 to 20:00 HKT – Pre-tournament programme
• 20:00 to 21:00 HKT – Team tournament
• 21:15 to 22:15 HKT – Individual tournament

Results of the TCA Beginners Tournament 2024

The TCA Beginners’ Tournament took place these past two weekends at ActiveKids learning centre in Kennedy Town. The first session was played on Sunday 14th, with the U7 and U9 sections. A total of 44 players across both sections made their first competitive moves in chess.

The primary goal of the TCA Beginners’ Tournament was precisely that, expose kids to a competitive tournament setting and allow them to showcase their chess skills for the first time.

The U7 section was taken with a perfect score by TCA student Huang Yantao, rounding up the top 3 were Mateo Mak and Jin Li. Best female was achieved by Jacqueline Wang.

In the U9 section, always one of the toughest, was taken by TCA student Lyndon Hung. Lyndon will be one to watch out for in scholastic tournaments for the foreseeable future! Next in the podium were Aaron Li, CCA student from ISF and Jayden Ridd. Top female award was taken by Jessie Wang.

Session 2 which included the U11 and U18 section were played on Sunday 21st. A total of 31 players showed up on a rainy day for some chess.

The U11 section was won by TCA student Avery Yan, who along with his younger brother Asher Yan (4th in the U9 section) are quickly showcasing great talent for chess. In second place was none other than Lyndon Hung who decided to challenge himself and return to play the U11 section after winning the U9 section the previous weekend. It was a championship last round pairing as Avery faced Lyndon, but it was Avery who came on top. As Lyndon got his champion trophy in the U9 section, the 2nd Place and 3rd place were taken by the TCA students Romanov, Alexander and Jain, Lakshika. Female winner was Chan, Sze Hang Audrey, also a CCA students from ISF.

The U18 section was won by TCA student Hugo Ip, who is preparing for his FIDE debut in standard chess in Spain later in the summer. Top 3 were Alston Yu and Mike Huang, with top female taken by Marissa Lee.
