The 9th Eastern Asian Youth Chess Championship 2025 kicked off on July 22, bringing together an amazing 455 players from 14 countries and regions. This exciting tournament is a great chance for young chess enthusiasts to show off their skills, compete at a high level, and make new friends along the way.
The TCA Coaches led a dedicated group of 13 players from Hong Kong to Zhuhai to prepare for this tournament. We are extremely proud of every single player and for the many outstanding results that we have achieved (see below).
During the tournament, the TCA coaches provided daily onsite training sessions that included both one-on-one and group activities. After each game, they conducted individual analyses, offering valuable feedback and emotional support to the players. This holistic approach ensured that every participant was not only well-prepared strategically but also supported mentally and physically throughout the competition.
Throughout the tournament, the players experienced a mix of emotions. The highs of victory were often matched by the challenges of competition. Each game presented its own trials, requiring mental toughness and flexibility. The camaraderie among players made the experience even more enjoyable, as they cheered each other on and shared in the excitement.
Standard Tournament Results
The championship began with the Standard games, a format known for its strategic depth and longer time controls, which challenge players to think critically and endure intense mental battles. After nine intense rounds, the Standard games wrapped up, and we couldn’t be prouder of our TCA students!

Rapid Tournament Results
Originally set for July 21, the Rapid tournament had to be postponed to July 29 due to a typhoon. This event featured seven rounds, and all the players were fighting hard for their titles. We’re excited to report that TCA students delivered an outstanding performance! Winning a tournament takes skill, strategy, and a little luck. Henry Li clinched the championship after winning his last game, ending up tied with five other players but coming out on top thanks to the fifth tie-break!
