The Chess Academy has organized the TCA Fall Match – the Monthly Rapid Swiss, during our chess club session last Saturday on October 23. The goal of this tournament is to allow kids to compete regularly in person and gain experience for the bigger tournaments, this series will serve as a training ground of sorts.
For this edition, a total of 16 players gathered on a Saturday afternoon and competed over 4 rounds of 15 minutes a-side games. The competition was tense from the beginning, with as many as 8 players in contention for a top-3 placing going into the last round. The top two players facing each other in the last round, left 6 others fighting for 3rd place. In the end, it was Kainos Wong who came on top undefeated, defending strongly against an aggressive attack from his opponent Caspar Tong who finished 2nd. Third place was won on tie-breaks by Kevin Yueh.
